Cocoa Horizons Year-End Snapshot is Now Available
The Cocoa Snapshot is a twice-yearly review done by the Cocoa Horizons organization to report on the results of the organization's efforts to support sustainable, responsibly-produced chocolate.
The Snapshot focuses on the progress made in each of three areas:
Productivity - helping farmers prosper with training and support
Community - protecting children, empowering women, and strengthening communities
Environment - farm mapping, agroforestry, shade tree distribution
These activities enable farmers to lift themselves out of poverty, eradicate child labor, and result in a deforestation-free cocoa supply chain. The Cocoa Horizons methodology sets clear targets by which progress is measured and reported.
Highlights for 2021-22
6000 farmers in Cote de Ivoire and Ghana were supported with pre-harvest labor.
Farmers typically spend 70% of their time in post-harvest activities, with little to no investment in pre-harvest labor. Pre-harvest investment is critical to productivity.
1,113 VSLAs established and consolidated across Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, and Cameroon.
VSLAs (Village Savings and Loan Associations) help empower women by building their self-confidence and providing financial solutions. In fact, 71% of the VSLA members are women.
88% of cocoa is demonstrated not to be contributing to deforestation.
In addition to farm mapping to ensure the cocoa is not coming from protected areas, multiple activities are implemented with the cocoa farming communities: environmental protection sensitization, agroforestry, restoration, and shade tree distribution.

They are an independent, non-profit organization supervised by the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority.
